With the passing of Chuck Noll, Rocky Bleier, former running back for the Steelers, recently reflected on his time as a member of Noll’s team—
“Chuck loved teaching moments, but he wasn’t an orator or a motivator. Chuck would say, ‘It’s not my job to hold your hand. It’s my job to take motivated people and show them how to become better.”
There are moments a pastor would love to say something of Noll’s words to his congregation. The church would be more of a force if there were less passive congregants who simply wanted a preacher who is skillful in the pulpit (humorous, story teller, therapist, motivator, etc) and more active pastors who would do less hand holding, giving their best energies to pouring into motivated Christ followers.
